Behind the White Curtain

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

So, there I am behind the white curtain; waiting to take the stage to perform 2 songs for the amazing folks at Travel Alberta. All was well, really…. I mean, other than I hadn’t slept for 3 nights with my mind playing lyrics tricks on me. Otherwise, I was keeping it together quite well. That is, until I witnessed, for the first time, the incredible video being showcased on the huge screen. My stomach dropped into my ginch; my eyes started watering and my chin started quivering. I had 2 more minutes and I simply looked at the nice serving lady from the hotel and said “is there a chance I can get a beer? …quick?” She was back in mere seconds, (thanks btw!)

The beer definitely helped but holy S*^t!

With 750 of Albertas’ top travel and tourism industry leaders facing me, not to mention the people who made these amazingly beautiful video spots and me with nothing but my guitar and a nice sweaty sheen.

I have so much I could say about how it all unfolded on that stage but I am not going to.

I am now back at home with a huge grin on my face. Thank you to everyone who worked on this project; your passion and devotion created a series of memories that left me humbled. I must say it was simply a pleasure and honour working with you all.

It was early Saturday morning when I got up and began sweeping the deck. The tide had just gone out and the sun was shining brightly in the front yard. I didn’t think it was going to be sunny that day, in fact the weather forecast was calling for rain all week! …. To view photos of this event and read more visit http://nevilleblack.com/blog/

Wil-”On Letterman”

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Tuesday January 18th 2011

Hey everyone,

I came home from the November tour fired up about recording another record. I spent time at home writing a number of new songs and re-visiting a few songs I had previously written until I felt really happy about the selection I had and that would lend themselves to making this record. I really just wanted to make a record on my own and my friend and drummer, Jason Cook, was available and interested in recording it with me in Victoria.
We are half way finished and pretty stoked about how its sounding- a bit more rough-a bit more loosey-goosey than my previous albums: a different process- a “grab it and move on-don’t look back” kind of approach.
So there you have it; another album slated for a late winter-early spring release.
…Oh yah… I plan on being on David Letterman this year. Don’t know how or when, but hey, I once planned on opening for Ray Lamontagne and then I did!

Cheers,

Wil.

This week we’re headed to the Ironwood Stage and Grill in Calgary for a live set by Wil — a.k.a. William Mimnaugh. He started his career in Calgary, playing covers in local bars. Now he writes, records and performs his own music, touring from his new home base on Vancouver Island.

He played this show as part of a 3-week Western Canadian tour, on a cold Monday night in November, to a sold out hometown crowd — some of whom have been following his music from the start!
Tune into CBC Radio One TODAY @ 5PM MST(4PM PST)
